Ancestors of Purple Clay Masters
The contemporary
ancestors of purple clay masters are represented by Gu Jingzhou, Jiang
Rong, Pei Shimin, Zhu Kexin, Wu Yungen, Wang Yinchun, Ren Xinting and
Tan Quanhai. They passed on their skills to some disciples after the
foundation of the People’s Republic of China,
and 15 of these disciples came out to be outstanding purple
clay masters.
Gu
Jingzhou.
Mr. Gu was one of the Great Master of Arts and Crafts of China. He was
born in an old and well-known clay family in 1915 and started his purple
clay art life since he was 18 years old. Two years later, at the age
of 20, he was already a well-known potter in Yixin. He was not only
smart at making all kinds of teapots, but also profound on art theory,
art history and antique appraisal. He was so outstanding that he was
called “ the tycoon of pottery” by artists. Mr. Gu not only
held a lot of key posts in purple clay industry, but also trained a
lot of pottery masters including Xu Hantang, Li Canghong, Shen Juhua,
Gao Haigeng and Zhou Guizhen. His representative works are: Hangyun
teapot, Xuehua teapot, Zhegu teapot, Big Plum Flower teapot, Monk Hat
teapot, Lotus Seed teapot with Bull Lid, and too many other great works
to be listed out.
Jiang
Rong ( Female)
Ms. Jiang was one of the Great Master of Arts and Crafts of China. She
was born in a old and well-known clay family in 1919 and started her
career while she was only 11 years old. In the years of 1940s, she was
following the guidance of Jiang Hongnie and Yu Renen. She was smart
at making fruit-shape teapots, all of which were vivic and refined and
attractive. The representative works are Lotus teapot, Pumpkin teapot,
etc.
Xu
Hantang
Mr. Xu was one of the Great Master of Arts and Crafts of China. He was
born in an old and well-known clay family in 1932 and followed the guide
of Gu Jingzhou in 1950s. He is a gifted potter who was not only smart
at traditional vase but also refined at creation. His representative
works are: Gu Shou Kui Jin teapot, Square Ice Veins teapot, Round in
Square teapot, San Dai Tong Tang teapot, etc.
Xu
Xiutang
Mr. Xu was one of the Great Master of Arts and Crafts of China. He,
who was one of the little brothers of Xu Hantang, was born in a old
and well-known clay family in 1937. He was so talent that he was not
only smart at pottery but also good at drawings and calligraphy. He
published a lot of papers and books about purple clay teapots. The representative
works are Yishou teapot, Yinqiao teapot, etc.
Li
Canghong
Mr. Li is one of the Great Master of Arts and Crafts of China. He was
born in 1937 and became a disciple of Gu Jingzhou in 1955. He is clever
and of scholar style, and as a result, he published many papers about
pottery. He works receive many prizes in all kinds of international
exhibition. The representative works are: Ben Yue teapot, Bamboo sticks
teapot and cups, Square teapot, etc.
Shen
Juhua ( Female)
Ms. Shen is one of the Great Master of Arts and Crafts of China. She
was born in 1939 and became one of the disciples of Gu Jingzhou in 1955.
The representative works are: Copper Mirror teapot, Yaotiao teapot,
Bamboo sticks teapot and cups, etc.
Li
Bifang ( Female)
Ms. Shen is one of the Senior Master of Arts and Crafts of China. She
was born in 1939 and became a disciple of Zhu Kexin in 1955. The representative
works are: Xin Lv Ling teapot, Shuo Lei teapot, Duo Ying teapot, etc.
Wang
Yinxian ( Female)
Ms. Wang is one of the Senior Master of Arts and Crafts of China. She
was born in 1943 and followed the guidance of Wu Yungen, Zhu Kexin,
Pei Shimin, Jiang Rong. She is smart at making teapots in flower shapes.
The representative works are: Plum Stick teapot, Bian Long teapot, etc.
Lu
Raochen
Mr. Lu is one of the Senior Master of Arts and Crafts of China. He was
born in Gaoteng county of Yixing city in 1940 and became a disciple
of Wu Yungen in 1958. He is talent in making all kinds of teapots with
skillful technique and refined design. He is now a famous potter inside
the pottery industry in worldwide areas. The representative works are:
Rongtian teapot, Shenyun teapot, Sangweng teapot, etc.
Wu
Zheng
Mr. Wu is one of the Senior Master of Arts and Crafts of China. He was
born in 1940 and became a disciple of Wu Yungen in 1958, and followed
the tutor of Gu Jingzhou in 1961. He is well educated in art theories
and skillful in pottery, by which he became a famous pottery designer.
Zhucu teapot and Yanzhu teapot are his representative works.
Bao
Zhiqiang
Mr. Bao has an art name as “ Leren”. He is one of the Senior
Master of Arts and Crafts of China. He was born in 1946 and started
his art career following Ren Xinting in 1959. He is specialized in pottery
drawing and calligraphy, and his works are highly appreciated in art
circle.
Tan
Quanhai
Mr. Tan has a art name as “ Shiquan”. He is one of the Senior
Master of Arts and Crafts of China. He was born in 1939 and started
his art career following Ren Xinting in 1958. The representative works
are: Bai Shou vase, Long Feng Cheng Xiang, Dun Huang Fei Tian, etc.
Chu
Lizhi
Mr. Chu is one of the Senior Master of Arts and Crafts of China. He
was born in 1942 and started his art life in 1954. Wu Yungen was one
of his tutors. The representative works are: Gong Chun Xue Yi, Ju Le,
etc.
Gu
Shaopei
Mr. Gu is one of the Senior Master of Arts and Crafts of China. He was
born in 1945 and started his art life in 1958. He is smart at both large
size and mini size teapots and vases. The representative works are:
Hua Ting teapot, Gao Feng Liang Jie teapot, Bai Shou vase, etc.
He
Daohong
Mr. He is one of the Senior Master of Arts and Crafts of China. He was
born in 1943 and started his art life with Wang YinChun in 1958. He
is talent in all kinds of teapots. The representative works are: Gu
Dai Ti Liang teapot, Dao Fang teapot, etc.
